Steve Sweeting

Sergeant Steve Sweeting has dedicated 18 years to law enforcement, currently serving as a
Patrol Sergeant with the Gainesville Police Department. Steve is an advocate for the idea that
resilience skill building, and mental toughness development are essential to overall Officer
wellness, and success. His unique approach blends ancient Stoic wisdom with contemporary
law enforcement experience, making him a sought-after instructor nationwide. He has traveled
the country teaching philosophy and resilience skills, aiming to enhance both the professional
and personal lives of law enforcement officers through his courses on resilience and mental
toughness.


With a decade of experience as a Field Training Officer (FTO) and now as an FTO Sergeant,
Steve specializes in coaching the next generation of law enforcement officers. He works with
FTOs to solve training issues, mentor them, and help shape FTO policy, serving on the FTO
committee. His practical experience is further demonstrated through his role as an adjunct
professor at Santa Fe College, where he teaches at the police academy. His commitment to law enforcement education extends beyond the classroom with his book “Street Stoic: Ancient Philosophy, Modern Policing,” and contributions to LawOfficer.com. He also publishes a weekly newsletter and has been a guest on numerous podcasts, spreading his insights on utilizing Stoic philosophy in law enforcement.
