Lieutenant Kory Borcherding

Louisiana State Police | Adjunct Instructor | Training & Operations Leader

Lieutenant Borcherding brings nearly three decades of distinguished military and civilian law enforcement service, with a career defined by operational excellence, leadership, and a deep commitment to officer development and public safety. A proud United States Marine Corps veteran, he began his service as a Military Policeman (5811), where he performed critical duties in both garrison and field environments, including battlefield security operations, riot control
instruction, and emergency response.

Following his honorable military service, Lieutenant Borcherding transitioned into civilian law enforcement, beginning with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant and served as a patrol supervisor, crime scene support officer, sniper, and policy writer for the Special Operations Response Team (SORT). His tenure also included community engagement as Vice President of the St. John Crimefighters, a nonprofit organization.

In 2008, he joined the Louisiana State Police, where his assignments have included Patrol, Criminal Patrol Unit, DWI Enforcement Unit, and the prestigious State Police Training Academy. As a key figure in statewide training operations, he has designed and implemented cadet training programs, supervised various instructional staff, developed e-learning modules in tactical communication, and served as State Coordinator for Field Training. He oversees Troop B operations, managing a team of Troopers and Sergeants tasked with enforcing traffic and criminal laws in the Greater New Orleans area.

Lieutenant Borcherding is a certified instructor in multiple law enforcement disciplines and a nationally recognized TASER Senior Master Instructor with Axon. He trains law enforcement professionals across the U.S. on energy weapons systems and body-worn technology. His work also includes supporting agency policy development and implementing training standards.

He is a Southeastern Field Training Officers Association (SEFTOA) board member, helping organize annual conferences and guide national training practices. In 2024, he was elected Southern Region Representative for the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) State Police and Provincial Academy Directors Section. He contributes to the IACP’s working group to help shape national policy on field training.

Lieutenant Borcherding also serves as an Adjunct Instructor at Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety, delivering expert-level instruction in speed-measuring device certification and other enforcement technologies.

With a professional ethos grounded in service, training excellence, and operational readiness, Lieutenant Borcherding continues to shape the next generation of law enforcement professionals and advance the public safety mission.
