Wayne South

Lieutenant Wayne South retired from the Gainesville Police Department in 2018 as the Training and
Education Division Commander. Professionally Wayne has 28 years of experience and 19 years as an
instructor. During his tenure Wayne served as a Deputy District Commander, Shift Commander, Patrol
Commander, FTO/Supervisor, Background Investigator, and Polygraph Examiner.


Wayne was an adjunct instructor for 17 years and taught classes ranging from basic topics to advanced
leadership skills and skills for field training officers. Placing value in effective leadership value has
always been a priority and the topic of an article recently published by Police 1. Wayne has taught in
Broward College’s Leadership in Public Safety program and currently teaches leadership to an
international audience.


Academically, Wayne holds a Master of Business Administration degree as well as a Master of Arts,
Criminal Justice degree and has attended numerous leadership development courses.


Wayne is currently an adjunct instructor for the Tennessee College of Applied Technology in their
Criminal Justice Program. When not teaching Wayne enjoys camping, fishing, and hiking with his wife of
twenty years.
